Chet Hanks set the internet ablaze yet again, this time posting a video predicting that this summer would be a “white boy summer”. He clarified that it wasn’t “Trump supporting” or “Nasacar” white boy, but more Jack Harlow and Jon. B. So to keep with that same energy, here are 7 songs to celebrate a “White Boy Summer” 90’s style! From Pop Hip Hop to Real Hip Hop!

Snow – “Anything for You” feat. Nadine Sutherland
If you don’t know about Snow, you probably know the songs that sampled him – like Daddy Yankee’s “Con Calma”! Snow, otherwise known as Darrin Kenneth O’Brien, is a certified white boy who grew up in Canada close to a West Indian Community. His reggae sound and accent is so authentic, he’s collaborated with Buju Banton and many more legendary reggae artists.

 

Brian Austin Green – “Style Iz It” live on Soul Train
Brian Austin Green might be more known as Meagan Fox’s ex-husband, but he came out the gate in the 90’s as a hearthrob, who starred on the hit show “Beverly Hills 90210”. Apparently he was a hip hop fan and artist, who gave music making a go – but unfortunately, it wasn’t met with much success. We still think it’s a guilty pleasure bop.

 

Young Black Teenagers -“Tap The Bottle”
Despite their name, YBT was a rap group of 5 white boys, including DJ Skribble. Their shocking name was given to them by legendary music executive and producer, Hank Shocklee. White rappers were a hit or miss in the 90’s, but these guys were actually respected in the game. One of the members, Kamron, made his acting debut in “House Party 2” as Kid’s roommate “Jamal”.

 

House of Pain – “Jump Around” live on “Yo! MTV Raps”
House of Pain was a trio of 2 Irish White boys (Everlast and Danny Boy) and one Jewish-Latvian fella (DJ Lethal). Their 1992 hit “Jump Around” was massive and still receives crowd appreciation to this DJ.

 

Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch – “Good Vibrations” live 1992
Most of you know Mark Wahlberg, but before he was a well-known actor – he was rapper Marky Mark and younger brother to Donnie Wahlberg (member of boy bad “New Kids On The Block“). Although he was a hit with a younger pop audience, his shirtless performances didn’t get him much respect in the hip hop community. His topless antic did land him in the famous Calvin Klein campaign with Kate Moss which catapulted his career and eventually moved him into cinema.

Beastie Boys – “Sabotage” live on David Letterman 1994
a New York City trio of Jewish musicians, Michael “Mike D” Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam “MCA” Yauch (vocals, bass) and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz (vocals, guitar, programming). They started off as a hardcore band and transitioned into hip hop, where they blended their unique rock and rap style. They even hired Rick Rubin as their DJ, back before he started Def Jam. Eventually, when Rubin started the label – he and Russell Simmons enlisted Beastie Boys and the rest is history!

3rd Bass – “Gas Face” The Arsenio Hall Show 1990
3rd Bass is another hip hop trio, that rose to fame in the 80’s/90’s. The group consisted of MC Serch (Michael Berrin), Prime Minister Pete Nice (Peter J. Nash), and DJ Richie Rich (Richard Lawson). Technically, this isn’t a “white boy” group since DJ Richie Rich is Black, but MC Serch and Pete Nice were the frontmen. Regardless, 3rd Bass is quite respected in the gam and notable for being one of the first successful interracial hip-hop groups. The guys disbanded in 1992, but not without giving us some hip hop classics like this one. “Gas Face” was defined by the group as “facial representation of disgust”, in which they had for the likes of Vanilla Ice and more at the time.The music video featured young MF Doom, DJ Subroc, Gilbert Gottfried, Flavor Flav, Salt-n-Pepa, Kid ‘N Play and EPMD.
