“How dark + lost we all are, how cold reality is.

How we try to hide our ugliness

with vanity, and how the ugliness bears more truth.

I hold on to the light, romance, fantasies + obsessions,

and don’t want to let them go.

I want to seduce you the same way the streets or darkness

do to me. But in the same breath, highlight our hypocrisy, our contradictions;

face them, dissect whats wrong with them, with us.

When I say us, I mean everyone,

but you’ll feel the context + references to

Latino/inner-city culture, and you’ll see that the entire book

has a distinctively New York, east coast feel as well.
