“12 hours a day, 7 days a week, Jerry stands at his post and watches over the bustling square. He always has kind words for passersby, maps for lost tourists, and a helping hand for those in need. Teenagers even entrust their cell phones to him for safekeeping during school…
Born in Cephallonia, Greece – Jerry worked as a merchant seaman before landing in the USA in the 1970’s. Running his own newsstand is Jerry’s American Dream.
Over his two decades at the stand, he has seen dramatic changes in his neighborhood and the city at large.
But, Jerry may not be here for long.
The city is trying to evict him from his stand because he lacks the required license. The owner of the license had allowed Jerry to run the stand and bequeathed the license to him when she passed away. Calling their arrangement illegal, the city is refusing to grant Jerry the license to own his own stand.”
