My 5 Favorite Scandinavian Songstresses Slaying the Charts!

As some of you may know, I am dating a Dane…a man from Denmark…Copenhagen to be exact. Naturally, I am so curious about him and his country – but also his area of the world, known as Scandinavia. As a hood kid from America, I just assumed Europe was all the same and just…well, Paris-like. After traveling to various places in Europe, I realized it was not that generalized. Basically, the world is HUGE and very different from place to place – no matter the continent.

As my interest in the world has evolved from being a small-minded American, to a world traveler…so has my interest in music! At the moment, I’m listening to Megan Thee Stallion from the USA, to Diljit Dosanjh from India, to Itzy from Korea, to Wizkid from Africa. I’m also listening to a lot of pop hits that just so happen to be from Scandinavia and since I’m headed to Copenhagen in a week, I wanted to share my Top 5 Favorite Scandinavian Artists and their latest hits!

Here’s my Top 5 Favorite Songs from Scandinavian Songstresses!

1. Robyn – “Ever Again”
Swedish Robyn has been slaying the charts since the 90’s, with her smooth R&B flow that I easily confused then for being from the inner city of the USA. Her signature short haircut has inspired other pop princesses, but it’s her lyrics, flow and dance performance that really sets her apart!

This video is shot perfectly and displays Robyn’s most sexual and intricate moves. The sounds are 80’s electro and dances are very Prince.

2. Zara Larsson – “Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me”
I’ve been loving this little Swedish cutie for a minute! She has hit jams, like Clean Bandit’s “Symphony” and the Mnek track “Never Forget You”. She has fun vocals and style for the youngin’s!

3. Tove Lo – “Glad He’s Gone”
Tove Lo (another Swede) has proven to be spicy and controversial with her honest lyrics, not covering up female sexuality with album names like “Lady Wood” (a female reference to “Wood”, the male slang for arousal) or “Blue Lips” (a female reference to “Blue Balls’, the male slang for arousal without ejacualtion).

4. Lykke Li (featured on Mark Ronson’s) – “Late Night Feelings”
If you don’t know Lykke Li’s haunting voice, you surely heard her on Drake’s “Nothing Was The Same Mixtape” where he sampled the Swedish singer for his version of “Little Bit”. This song and video gives me the best dance disco vibes; filled with quaaludes and heartbreak.

5. Mø – “Blur” feat. Foster The People
If you haven’t heard this Danish babe on the record breaking DJ Snake and Major Later track “Lean On”, then you might be a ghost who hasn’t realized it died. Just saying…everyone knows this song and Mø is the Scandinavian Sweetie leading you through it! Her latest track is just as catchy and cool!
