…it would be bad-ass if it were something explicit and R-RATED, like me round house kicking a polar bear or robbing a bank — NO. the video found is far worse.

it is my first film…EVER! (so embarrassing)

in high school i saved up from my many jobs and purchased a video camera. i was positive it would help me become a better director/documentarian. turns out, i mostly shot my friends and their wild antics – which was easy because they were wild suburban white boys.

since i was shunned from all my black friends for being “too weird” in my neighborhood (well, except LA’KEA…she was the only one who accepted me) i had been made an honorary member of a white boy crew of friends whom i met when they would BMX and skateboard in my downtown area. oddly enough they were the only ones who “got me” and after leaving them to move to new york city, i was always surprised to make a good friend who wasn’t an extreme sporting white boy!

recently, i’ve been stumbling upon these tapes and i decided i needed to transfer them as digital files to have on my computer…

one of the tapes held footage from THE FIRST AND ONLY FILM I MADE AS A TEEN, which i made for SPANISH CLASS. my teacher had given us the option of WRITING A PAPER or MAKING A FILM. i though “duh” and picked the latter (thinking it was the easier thing to make)…

i, of course, waited until two days before to make the piece. which explains why it’s so horribly done. i asked my friends to help and they did just that. at the time of being care-free high school kids, we thought it would be funny to make our “SPANISH SPEAKING” as bad as possible.

this might be the most terribly put-to-gether piece of anything i’ve seen in my life.

i might eventually share it with the world when i muster up the courage. for now, here are some stills.

the story was about an innocent school girl that meets the wrong group of kids, OD’s on drugs and then finds real friends that don’t expect her to be anything but herself. since me and my friends were STRAIGHT EDGE we had a lot of fun with playing “drug addicted characters”
