oh my gosh. i can’t believe my baby is turning FO’ YEARS OLD! 1992 the party turned 4 years old this year and we celebrated the right way with DJ SOUL (one of the original DJ’s) at CV RIVINGTON.

i can remember the moment of conception. OSCAR and i sitting on a NOLITA bench late one night, doing what we do best – gabbing and collaborating creatively on ideas. we were rambling on about how wack parties had become in the city. whether it was an album release party for a big record label. streetwear brand or a fashion week party, they were all the same. they all gave the same energy of those condescending questions, “who are you?” “what are you wearing?” and “who do you know?”. we knew most of these people putting these parties on and even though we were invited, we could see how other people could feel inferior.

we wanted to create a space where all kinds of people would come and dance, have a great time and feel welcomed. what kind of music would we play? without question, it would be music from the era that still haunted OSCAR and i – the late 80’s/early 90’s. then OSCAR said, “1992” and she was born – baby hair pumping with a blow pop to boot!

in 2006, there were no parties dedicated to playing music from that era. it was before the “RETRO” craze when OSCAR was the only one i knew wearing CAZAL and MCM. now – they’re a dime a dozen, but as JOHNNY OSBOURNE said: “its the only 90’s party that matters”! BULLET.
