the folks over at M.I.S.S. have always been so sweet to me and when they asked me to be a part of this new series they have about one’s own personal style – i was more than down. i really dress like a homeless person, but who am i to judge if they think it’s “style” 🙂

“Follow the Leader, Episode 2: Va$htie Kola
In the second episode of our new three-part webseries, Follow the Leader, M.I.S.S. introduces you to Va$htie.
Fondly dubbed “Downtown’s Sweetheart†by various NYC trendsetters, Va$htie Kola’s instantly recognizable aesthetic proves that style is far beyond fashion. The director and designer is unmatched in her ability to reconstruct memorable moments from our cultural pasts (she cites inspirations as diverse at Depeche Mode and Big Daddy Kane), and merge them with the best of what’s current. Her wardrobe incorporates a steady diet of all things grunge (thrifted flannels and aged cut-offs) with higher-end centerpieces. The result is a unique personal style that speaks volumes about the type of person Va$htie is– geuninely excited and inspired by individuality in all its forms.
In the below episode of Follow the Leader, Va$htie reveals the sentiment and inspiration behind three of her favorite looks.”

I love your style..
the interview is great, fashion is great, Va$htie is great ;]
i dig the rl boots and inside out shirts. very cool.
I really admire your style.
V,
i only watched about 1.5 min of your video cause i'm A.D.D. like that but i gotta say as a woman who has never felt comfortable in woman's clothing i appreciate your effort.
i look back at pictures of myself in high school and wish i knew where to shop cause i was more comfortable in boy's clothing but it did not fit well and was not cut right. i'm sure you know what i mean.
i feel like clothing is stuffed into gender boxes and i need access to funky things that'll still fit me right.
thx. keep it up...being yourself i mean.

Yeah those polo boots go nutty. But I'm too lazy to find them and no $ to get them...
I really liked that, Vash. I covet the blue Jacket and sequins vest! Your style is so yours. That's why I love it? Everyone's so uber-trendy these days and it gets pretty sickening; your not & that's inspirational to all grungy girls who also love quality pieces! Kudos!
(no question mark after that's why I love it; an exclamation)
Love ur style....it refreshing to see someone not really care what others think and is able to portray her own definition of style which might I add is fabulous
Nice! yup, you're stuff has a "timeless" feel to it, meaning you could wear that 10 years from now and it still wouldn't look tacky.
