Event Recap: Vashtie Spins at Ray-Ban Soho

Whether it was the Coolhaus ice cream truck parked right in front, the big black balloons that hinted at a possible turn-up, or passing by and hearing everything from “Supa Dupa Fly” to Sade croon over “Cant Have Everything” by Drake, many people came to party (and shop) as Vashtie spun at the Ray-Ban flagship store. This past Saturday afternoon the iconic eyewear brand partnered with our very own Downtown Sweetheart and acclaimed street artist and painter Misha Tyutyuink a.k.a “M DOT” to host a special event for their customers at their flagship Soho location.

The first part of the experience was of course the ice cream. Coolhaus provided their signature all-natural ice cream sandwiches complimentary to the event. A long line piled as people chose flavors ranging from Tahitian vanilla bean to dirty mint chip and a snickerdoodle or chocolate chip cookie to hold it all in. Even the wrapper holding the sandwich was edible!

While munching on their treats, shoppers throughout the store were looking for their perfect shades. And with so many options to choose from with an array of style and lens options, it was not the easiest decision for most. So it helps to not only have energetic associates who are vibing to “Candy Rain” and other throwback R&B, running into influencers like Cold Game Kelv, but to also look to your left and see your favorite dj in glitter headphones spinning all types of feel good music. Fans of Vashtie got the opportunity to see her in action and also grab some quick photos and videos with her as well. Some cute little kids even got the chance to practice spinning alongside her!

Those who purchased any Ray-Ban Blaze or Wayfarer sunglasses, got to watch as Mdot hand painted their cases. At awe by his pure talent and simple demeanor and dedication while painting the cases, customers also had the opportunity to add their own spin on a painting he worked on throughout the entire event. By the end, a vibrant mural of flowers and shapes was left on display.

Elizabeth Guerrero Maulhardt of Oliver Peoples Group who put together the event said she wanted to merge music, fashion, and art by getting people who represent the cool, non-traditional, and authentic NYC vibe to the Ray-Ban flagship store, when asked how the event came about. By the time customers were done with their purchases that sat on the lounge steps of the store and listened to Vashtie play some old-school reggae, followed by classic hip-hop, which really got everyone hype by the last hour.

So free ice cream, new shades, one-of-a-kind art, good music, and your favorite dj? Sounds like a perfect summer day!
